AdventureWEEK Peloponnese 2026 Concludes, Strengthening International Partnerships and Destination Visibility

Greece’s Largest Adventure Tourism Initiative

With a strong international presence, strategic partnerships, and a significant legacy of international outreach, AdventureWEEK Peloponnese 2026 has successfully concluded, establishing itself as the largest adventure tourism initiative ever hosted in Greece.

Held from 4 to 13 May 2026, the event showcased the Peloponnese’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, gastronomy, and authentic experiences, connecting the region’s tourism offering with the growing international demand for sustainable and high-quality destinations.

The Marketplace Event and International Business Connections

AdventureWEEK Peloponnese 2026 concluded with the Marketplace Event, which served as the highlight of the programme and the culmination of a multi-day international initiative that positioned the Peloponnese firmly on the global adventure tourism map.

Through targeted business meetings, 19 international buyers and 12 leading media representatives from key markets—including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, and Canada—connected with tourism businesses from across the Peloponnese, creating meaningful opportunities for future partnerships, new tourism flows, and enhanced international visibility for the region’s tourism sector.

A Strategic Partnership Between the Region, Visit Peloponnese, ATTA, and GNTO

AdventureWEEK Peloponnese 2026 was organized by the Region of Peloponnese and Visit Peloponnese, in cooperation with the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), the world’s leading organization for adventure and experiential tourism, with the support of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO).

The successful completion of the event reflects the strategic international outreach efforts of the Region of Peloponnese, with a strong focus on enhancing global awareness and positioning the region as a modern destination for thematic and experiential tourism.

Statement by the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organisation

The Secretary General of GNTO, Mr. Andreas Fiorentinos, emphasized that initiatives such as AdventureWEEK contribute significantly to strengthening Greece’s international image as a destination that can attract visitors for ten to twelve months of the year.

As he noted, “A key prerequisite for achieving this goal is the active participation and cooperation of local communities and tourism stakeholders, creating the necessary conditions to attract visitors throughout the year.”

He also highlighted that GNTO’s strategic planning focuses on further enriching Greece’s tourism offering, increasing visitor arrivals, and distributing tourism activity across more destinations and throughout the entire year.

In this context, he described the Peloponnese as “being at the forefront of this effort,” adding that “the growing appeal of slow tourism aligns perfectly with contemporary travel trends and can bring substantial added value to the Greek tourism product, enhancing both its sustainability and differentiation.”

Dimitris Ptochos: “The Peloponnese is Reintroducing Itself to the World”

The Governor of the Peloponnese, Mr. Dimitris Ptochos, stated:

“Over the past months, the Region of Peloponnese has been making a major effort to reintroduce itself to the world and to create a tourism product that is attractive to all audiences.

Our core objective is to build a sustainable development model and a new tourism ecosystem where nature, gastronomy, and culture coexist. The Peloponnese possesses an exceptionally rich cultural heritage which, combined with its local communities, can be transformed into authentic and immersive experiences for visitors.

The implementation of such a vision requires strong and strategic partnerships. This is precisely where our cooperation with ATTA and GNTO comes into play, helping us establish and strengthen these alliances in practice.

AdventureWEEK, taking place in Greece for the very first time, serves as a dynamic platform for networking and the exchange of experiences. Through this platform, we can not only tell the story of our destination, but also actively participate in shaping its future.”

Perspectives on Laconia and Experiential Tourism

The Mayor of Sparta, Mr. Michalis Vakalopoulos, underlined that participation in AdventureWEEK offers a valuable opportunity to showcase the tourism product of the region.

He stressed that Laconia’s tourism offering should not be viewed in isolation but rather as an integral part of the wider Peloponnese tourism experience, within a framework of cooperation and collective effort aimed at promoting the destination and extending visitor stays.

He also noted that the experiential tourism approach promoted through AdventureWEEK represents an innovative model, encouraging active participation from all stakeholders and expressing confidence that similar initiatives will continue in the future with new destinations, new opportunities, and new challenges.

The International Positioning of the Peloponnese as an Adventure Destination

Ms. Maureen Seelley, representative of the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), highlighted the region’s strong potential for adventure tourism development.

She expressed her enthusiasm for the Peloponnese’s landscapes and trail network, noting that they provide high-quality experiences for visitors. She also emphasized the authenticity of the destination and the exceptional level of local hospitality, both of which significantly enhance the region’s appeal in the international tourism marketplace.

A New Strategy for Alternative Tourism

The Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism of the Peloponnese, Mr. Thanos Michelongonas, added that AdventureWEEK forms part of a broader strategy aimed at positioning the Peloponnese on the global map of alternative tourism.

A cornerstone of this strategy is the Peloponnese Trails initiative, a unified network of more than 2,000 kilometres of trails connecting mountain ranges, villages, natural landscapes, and cultural landmarks across the entire Peloponnese, creating one of the most ambitious outdoor tourism projects in Europe.
